CAMARILLO : Ventura Man Killed in Head-on Collision
A Ventura man was killed when his pickup truck collided head-on with a tractor-trailer truck Saturday morning, closing California 118 from 8:40 a.m. to 11 a.m., authorities said.
Weldon Waits, 46, was driving east on California 118 near Camarillo when a westbound tractor-trailer swerved into his lane, the California Highway Patrol reported. The tractor-trailer had rear-ended a car that had slowed abruptly. Rain may have contributed to the accident.
The tractor-trailer, driven by Lawrence Stoup, 41, of Pasadena, was traveling about 50 m.p.h., the CHP reported. Stoup was not injured.
Waits was taken to Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo, where he died at 9:20 a.m., said Craig Stevens, Ventura County deputy coroner.
