Separate Shootings Leave Two Men Dead

A Latino male in his early 20s was shot to death just before noon Sunday while sitting on the grass at Marston Point at the south end of Balboa Park, police reported. The man died several hours later at Mercy Hospital from gunshot wounds to the head and chest, a spokesman said.

Several witnesses told police that a Latino man, about 25, walked up to the victim and fired several shots, after which the gunman fled west on 6th Avenue. The victim’s identity was not released Sunday night by the San Diego County medical examiner’s office.

A second shooting death occurred just south of the Golden Hill area of Balboa Park between 29th and C streets shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday. An unidentified Asian male, 23, was shot once in the head and once in the arm and taken to Mercy Hospital, where he died while undergoing surgery.

Police have no suspects in either homicide.
