Two men who allegedly robbed a man and woman early Sunday were later arrested outside a nearby motel by police responding to the call.

Manuel Oblado Martinez, 19, of Downey and Kevin Matthew Garcia, 19, of El Monte were arrested on suspicion of robbery, Police Lt. Luis Ochoa said.

The 21-year-old man and 19-year-old woman were getting into their car at 2:45 a.m. in a parking lot in the 700 block of Pacific Coast Highway when two men approached them and demanded their money.

One of the robbers said his partner had a gun, Ochoa said. They robbed the man and woman of $25 and warned the pair they would be killed if they called police, he said.

As soon as the robbers left, the victims drove from the parking lot and called police, who 16 minutes later found two men fitting the description of the robbers outside a motel at 720 Pacific Coast Highway.

Ochoa said the men were arrested without incident. Police recovered $25 but did not find a gun.

Bail was set at $50,000 for each of the suspects, who were in custody at Huntington Beach City Jail.
