Suwara Loses Job at SDSU

Budget cuts cost Rudy Suwara his job as head coach of the SDSU women’s volleyball team, Athletic Director Fred Miller announced Monday.

Myles Gabel, an assistant the past two seasons, will act as head coach of the women’s team and assist the men’s team.

Meanwhile, Jack Henn will continue as men’s head coach and assist with the women. A third coach who will assist both teams will be named later.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

A 13-and-under select team managed by the San Diego Police Athletic League advanced to the championship bracket of the AAU/USA Junior Olympics in Kenner, La., with a 67-58 overtime victory over Shoreline Shooters of Long Island.
