Two Local Soccer Teams Play Semifinals Today

Two local youth soccer teams will continue their quests for national championships today in Richmond, Va.

The North Huntington Beach Football Club, an under-16 boys’ team, is scheduled to play Dallas Inter this morning in a semifinal match of the U.S. Youth Soccer Assn.’s National Cup tournament.

This afternoon, the Fountain Valley Spirit will play Reston (Va.) United in an under-16 girls’ semifinal.

The title matches for both boys’ and girls’ divisions will be Saturday at the University of Richmond.

Most of the players from each team will be juniors at Orange County high schools this fall. To be eligible for the under-16 division, a player must not have turned 16 by last Aug. 1.

Last summer, the Mission Viejo Herricanes won the girls’ under-16 championship, and an under-19 boys’ team from the North Huntington Beach Football Club won a title.
