Quarterback Jay Schroeder completed 12 of 20 passes for 175 yards with one interception and one touchdown, a 70-yard play to tight end Ethan Horton, during a controlled scrimmage Saturday morning.

After his first pass was dropped, Schroeder completed five passes in a row for 52 yards, all to Horton, who had a total of seven catches for 129 yards.

Backup quarterback Todd Marinovich completed nine of 15 passes for 76 yards, and third-string quarterback Vince Evans completed five of eight passes for 76 yards and one touchdown, a 49-yard play to rookie wide receiver Mike Reddick.

Running back Eric Dickerson, acquired from Indianapolis in a draft-day trade, had two carries for four yards.

Kicker Jeff Jaeger made field goals of 20, 48 and 52 yards.

Although they were without cornerbacks Lionel Washington and Terry McDaniel and defensive ends Greg Townsend and Scott Davis, who haven’t reported to camp because of contract disputes, the Raider defense looked sharp.

Safety Dave Waymer intercepted pass from Schroeder, and safety Ronnie Lott dropped an interception of a pass from Marinovich.

“I thought the session this morning was very spirited,” Raider Coach Art Shell said. “We got a lot accomplished under game conditions. I thought the first defense did well, and I thought the offensive line did a pretty good job of pass protecting.

“We didn’t run a lot, but in practices like this your offensive coordinator thinks everything has to be a pass, and you have to remind him that you don’t have to throw every down.”

Rookie wide receiver William Hinchcliff, a free agent, and Shawn Moore were waived Saturday. . . . The Raiders are off today and resume drills Monday. They will practice in Oxnard until Wednesday, when they leave for a three-day practice against the Phoenix Cardinals in Flagstaff, Ariz.
