El Segundo Routs West to Advance to Legion Final

Shortstop Jay Uhlman had four hits and scored three runs and right fielder Ryan McClosky had three hits and drove in two runs Wednesday night to lead El Segundo to a 17-0 victory over West Torrance in the Fourth Area American Legion baseball playoffs at Blair Field in Long Beach.

The consolation final victory puts the Eagles into the championship against Gahr this afternoon at 5. El Segundo needs to beat Gahr twice to advance to the state tournament.

El Segundo pitcher Matt Gangawere held West to only three hits in five innings to earn the victory. He was relieved by Hauss Hancock in the sixth and William Brown in the seventh.

West starting pitcher Josh Bendick lasted only 3 1/3 innings.

The Eagles’ Jeff Poor scored on a passed ball in the second inning for a 1-0 lead. El Segundo added four runs in the third for a 5-0 lead.

After six consecutive walks led to a three-run fourth, El Segundo scored six runs in the sixth for a 14-0 lead.
