Jim Albus shot a five-under-par 67 to take the first-round lead in the $450,000 Northville Long Island Classic senior tournament in Jericho, N.Y.
Albus, 52, once was pro at the Piping Rock Club at Locust Valley, about three miles from Meadow Brook, where he built a one-stroke lead over U.S. Senior Open champion Larry Laoretti.
Laoretti was pro at East Norwich, about four miles from the site of this tournament.
