PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Hamstring Injury Keeps Gary Home
Running back Cleveland Gary is one of 11 Rams who didn’t make the trip for tonight’s exhibition opener at the Kingdome against the Seattle Seahawks.
Gary missed practice for the second day Wednesday because of tenderness in his hamstring and joins cornerback Todd Lyght, No. 1 pick Sean Gilbert and receiver Henry Ellard as injured starters who will not suit up.
Robert Delpino will move from fullback to take Gary’s spot at tailback, with 10th-round pick Tim Lester starting at fullback, Coach Chuck Knox said. David Lang will spell both Delpino and Lester.
The Rams’ first-team units should play about half the time tonight. . . . Seattle Coach Tom Flores said he probably will start Kelly Stouffer at quarterback and play him the first half, then give the second half to second-year man Dan McGwire. McGwire and Stouffer are battling for the starting job.
