PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Allen Expected to Report Soon

Marcus Allen will end his holdout and report to the Raiders’ Oxnard training camp “soon,” according to a source close to the running back.

Allen, who has not had a pay increase in three years, doesn’t expect the situation to change. With no alternative, he is resigned to again playing without a contract for the $1.1-million annual salary he has played for since 1989.

Allen, said the source, will be in camp sometime after he finishes moving into a new house.

Allen spent several seasons competing with Bo Jackson for playing time in the Raider backfield. Now, Allen faces a new challenge in another veteran ballcarrier, Eric Dickerson.

Right-handed quarterback Anthony Dilweg was still chuckling Monday about his debut as a left-hander Saturday against the San Francisco 49ers in the Raiders’ exhibition opener.

Observers were surprised to see No. 12, Todd Marinovich, suddenly replaced in the Raider huddle in the second half by No. 8, Dilweg.

They were even more surprised when No. 8 starting throwing passes left-handed.

It turned out Marinovich wasn’t gone, after all. Only his jersey.

An official had ordered him to remove it after he had cut out the seams under the sleeves to give him more room. Marinovich borrowed Dilweg’s jersey while repairs were made on his own.

“He didn’t do it (the jersey) any justice when he went 0 for 3 passing,” Dilweg said.
