BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Davis Activated; Anderson Put on DL

Share

The Dodgers activated Eric Davis before Tuesday night’s game, retroactive to Aug. 22.

Davis had spent the last three weeks on the disabled list because of a bone chip in his left wrist, and it had been thought he would not return until the Dodgers’ next trip, starting Thursday. To make room for Davis, reserve infielder Dave Anderson (right strained hamstring) was put on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 22.

“I feel pretty good, as good as what’s expected,” said Davis, who hasn’t been in the lineup since Aug. 1. “It’s probably as good as it’s going to get. So I have to get going.

“I don’t think I have to salvage anything. I’ll just have to see how the body is feeling. It’s been a long time.”

Davis has shown improvement in his range of motion during the last few days.

“I just can’t really snap it (the wrist) the way I want to,” he said.

For the second consecutive day, right fielder Darryl Strawberry was a no-show at Dodger Stadium. Strawberry, who has a herniated disk, has remained at home because of a viral infection. The infection is not expected to interfere with the plan to have Strawberry return to the lineup sometime during this next trip.

The Dodgers’ top outfielding prospect, Raul Mondesi, had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to remove torn cartilage. Mondesi already has had one operation on his right knee and was sidelined because of a wrist injury earlier this season. . . . Hurricane Andrew barely missed hitting the Dodgers’ spring training compound in Vero Beach, Fla. All that hit Vero Beach was about a half-inch of rain. . . . Rookie left fielder Tom Goodwin, on his second-inning tip of Jose Lind’s drive over the left-field wall on Monday: “I got an assist. I was playing like Magic (Johnson).” . . . Pittsburgh Manager Jim Leyland, who played Monday’s game under protest, filed a complaint with the National League on Tuesday.
