Loyola Basketball Recruit Moss Decides to Attend School in Texas

Freshman guard Marcus Moss, a Loyola Marymount basketball recruit who was expected to contend for a starting spot, has decided to remain in his home state of Texas and attend a community college, Loyola announced Wednesday.

The 5-foot-10 Moss, who averaged 18 points and 6.9 assists last season for Killeen High, will attend South Plains Junior College in Levelland, Tex. In Loyola’s summer prospectus, Moss was listed as a candidate for starting point guard.

First-year Loyola Coach John Olive was surprised by Moss’ decision.

“Throughout the first part of the summer, (Moss) seemed intent on coming here,” Olive said. “Then last week he notified us that he wanted to stay close to his family and enroll in a local junior college. We wish him the best of luck in his collegiate career.”

Three other Loyola basketball recruits began fall classes Monday--Cerritos College transfer Bill Mazurie, a 6-3 guard; John Anthony, a 6-7 forward from Peninsula High, and Tom Airey, a 6-1 guard from Capistrano Valley High.
