ESCONDIDO : Judge Orders Man Remanded to Ohio
A federal magistrate in San Diego ordered a suspected serial rapist handed over to Ohio authorities for prosecution on charges that he kidnaped and raped a 12-year-old girl in 1971.
Donald Nelson Soldano, 44, was ordered remanded to Ohio authorities on Monday. Soldano, who was profiled on the television show “America’s Most Wanted” in July, was arrested by FBI agents Saturday at an Escondido motel.
He was sought under a warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution in the 1971 Cincinnati case. Soldano was convicted in 1977 in Los Angeles of rape and kidnaping and served seven years at the state prison at Chino. He was released in 1984 before his status as a fugitive in the Ohio case was known.
He also is charged in the February, 1987, rape of a Salinas female church employee, and with domestic violence and obstructing justice in Redmond, Wash., last January.
He was released from the King County Jail before authorities received confirmation of his fingerprints, which would have linked him to the outstanding warrants, according to the FBI’s San Diego office.
