*OUTLOOK

Estancia was probably the county’s best team not to make the playoffs last season, just missing third place in the league behind Century. The Eagles had the league’s toughest defense (107 points), but struggled offensively (110 points). Johner, a third-year starter, is being recruited by several Division I schools and will have a great season if the offensive line gives him time to throw. “We might have to sprint him out,” Liebengood said. “Matt’s one of the top quarterbacks in the league and the county. He has to be a top five player. He’s a definite Division I player. He’s our bread-and-butter guy, and he’ll have to carry us.” Liebengood said the Eagles’ receivers are the best he has had at Estancia. Running back is a question; Christian Gomez and Nelson Olshefski, last year’s starters, both have left school.
