WOODLAND HILLS : Woman Dies After Being Hit by Car
A 69-year-old Woodland Hills woman died after she was struck by a car while crossing the street outside of a crosswalk, police said Wednesday.
Sedik Yoskanians-Harotlinians was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred Tuesday about 8 p.m. on Topanga Canyon Boulevard near Marylee Street, police said.
The 27-year-old driver who hit Yoskanians-Harotlinians told authorities that he was traveling north about 40 m.p.h. when he saw Yoskanians-Harotlinians in front of him, Los Angeles Police Officer Bill Rice said.
The driver, Steven Welk of Calabasas, said he slammed on the brakes and swerved right to avoid the woman, who turned and ran in front of him, Rice said. “He said he would have missed her if she hadn’t tried to run,” he said.
Welk was not arrested, Rice said.
