Leofa Scores Five Touchdowns for Los Amigos
Junior Leofa scored five touchdowns and had 215 yards total offense Thursday, leading Los Amigos to a 34-20 nonleague victory over Estancia at Newport Harbor High.
Leofa caught a 75-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ape Tuato, who threw for 220 yards, to give Los Amigos (1-0) a 14-6 lead on the first play of the second quarter. Leofa also scored on runs of one, 10, 53 and 11 yards.
Leofa caught four passes for 119 yards and rushed for 96 yards on eight carries. The Los Amigos offense finished with 452 yards.
Penalties were the only things to slow the Lobos. Officials penalized Los Amigos 11 times for 80 yards.
Leofa’s 53-yard touchdown run with 7:05 remaining in the game was the final blow for the Eagles, who had rallied from a 15-point deficit. Estancia (0-1) closed to within 27-20 on quarterback Matt Johner’s 23-yard touchdown pass to Robert Rimi with 8:03 remaining.
Johner completed seven of 13 passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns, including a 26-yard score to Victor Mendez.
Noah Tagatauli was the leading rusher for Los Amigos, gaining 118 yards in 18 carries.
