ENCINITAS : Train Hits Cyclist Waiting on Tracks
A man on a bicycle rode onto the train tracks in Leucadia Tuesday afternoon, stopped and watched a speeding train until it ran him over, killing him, authorities said.
Coroner’s investigators were trying to determine whether the incident near Leucadia Boulevard and Vulcan Street was a suicide or an accident.
Shortly before 1:26 p.m., the cyclist rode onto the tracks, authorities said. Authorities said it appeared that the cyclist ignored lowered crossing guards and warning lights and deliberately stopped in the path of the approaching Amtrak passenger train.
