Ralph Sampson, a three-time All-American at Virginia, was named a part-time assistant coach at James Madison in his home town of Harrisonburg, Va.
The 7-foot-4 Sampson, 32, will earn $16,000 per year, the maximum allowed for part-timers under NCAA rules.
“I think he can help us a lot of ways--recruiting, coaching and hopefully he can bring in a few fans for us,” James Madison Coach Lefty Driesell said.
