Bakersfield 24, Kennedy 22--Kennedy’s second-half rally fell inches short. Donte Scarbrough, who rushed for 103 yards in 32 carries, scored his second touchdown of the game on a one-yard run with 63 seconds to play. Scarbrough was tackled short of the goal line on the two-point conversion attempt.

Kennedy (0-2) had fallen behind, 24-7, after three quarters when the Golden Cougars began their comeback. Vincent Carthron scooped up a fumble and rambled 37 yards for a score midway through the third quarter.

With 6:44 left in the game, Jeremy Deach kicked a 42-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 24-16. With Bakersfield trying to run out the clock, Kennedy’s Manu Loungi recovered a fumble near midfield.

John Toven threw 47 yards to Shawn Dudra, who was tackled at the one to set up Scarbrough’s score.

San Fernando 33, Westchester 33--San Fernando’s Amon Flanagan blocked Shawn Riggins’ conversion attempt with 30 seconds left to preserve the tie at San Fernando.

Westchester had tied the score on a 39-yard scoring pass from Seka Edwards to Jonathan Daniels. San Fernando’s Derrick Rowe fumbled a punt at the San Fernando 43 in the closing two minutes and Edwards recovered for Westchester to set up the drive.

Leon Blunt ran for two touchdowns for San Fernando in the third quarter. Blunt (four of 12 for 114 yards) had passed for a touchdown in the first quarter.
