College Soccer Match Halted After Fracas

Share

A men’s soccer match between visiting Santa Barbara and Oxnard colleges was suspended Tuesday after a bench-clearing brawl.

The match was stopped early in the second half after two players were ejected for fighting, Oxnard Coach Tomas Pardo said. Campus police were called to the scene but no arrests were made.

Santa Barbara was leading, 3-0, in the Western States Conference opener for both teams.

“They continued pushing and shoving each other and swinging at each other,” Pardo said. “People from both sides came in and tried to restrain them. I don’t know why the game was stopped. The referees just left.”
