Westminster quarterback Johnny Mahurien threw for two touchdowns and ran for one as the Lions beat Ocean View, 21-0, in a Sunset League opener at Huntington Beach High.

Mahurien completed 11 of 18 passes for 145 yards in a game completely dominated by Westminster (3-1, 1-0). The Lions’ defense held Ocean View (0-4, 0-1) to eight first downs--two by penalties--and just 112 yards in total offense. Seahawk senior fullback Mike Coerper, who had a 38-yard run nullified by a clipping penalty in the third quarter, managed only 13 yards on eight carries.

Mahurien connected on scoring passes of 25 yards to Steve Murphy and 22 yards to Jared Wells to give Westminster a 14-0 halftime lead. He then scored on a five-yard run midway through the third quarter to complete the scoring.
