Rebecca Huereque and Tracy Nguyen of Cal Poly Pomona will participate as a doubles team in the Rolex Collegiate tennis championships Oct. 22-25 at Corpus Christi, Tex.

Huereque and Nguyen defeated Lucie Ludvigova and Natalie Bachich of Grand Canyon, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, at last weekend’s regional championships at Azusa Pacific.

Huereque and Nguyen also advanced to the semifinals in singles competition at the regionals before they were eliminated in that division. *

The unbeaten La Verne University football team will play host to Menlo in a nonconference game Saturday.

La Verne (3-0-1) defeated Azusa Pacific, 34-7, in a nonconference game last week. La Verne is tied with Occidental at 2-0 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

La Verne quarterback Willie Reyna, a Division III All-American last season, has passed for 880 yards and nine touchdowns in four games. Gabe Cotero has 23 receptions for 300 yards and David Morales has 12 receptions for 203.

La Verne is averaging 350 yards a game on offense and giving up 298. *

Don Pellum, recruiting coordinator for the California football program, will be the featured speaker Friday at the Pasadena Quarterback’s Club luncheon at Brookside Country Club.

The club, in its 48th year, is open to all with annual dues of $30. Lunch is $10 for members and $12 for guests.

The city of Diamond Bar is accepting registration for adult slo-pitch leagues that will begin Sunday.

Men’s leagues and co-ed leagues, featuring eight teams and an 11- game schedule, will run through Jan. 17. Games will be played Sunday mornings and afternoons.

Bonita High will sponsor a sports cards and sports memorabilia show Oct. 24 at the school gymnasium.

The show, which will benefit the Bearcat football program, will feature appearances by 1946 Heisman Trophy winner Glenn Davis, who graduated from Bonita in 1939, former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Frank Pastore, who graduated from Damien High, and former major league pitcher Clyde Wright.

The San Dimas Mountain Rescue Team is sponsoring a benefit golf tournament on Nov. 6 at Marshall Canyon Golf Course in La Verne.

The tournament is limited to 144 players who will compete in a scramble format.

The $125 entry fee includes green and cart fees, lunch and a banquet dinner.
