HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL / CITY SECTION ROUNDUP : Kennedy Stuns Granada Hills

Share

It might have taken Kennedy High Coach Bob Francola six years to win his first game against cross-town rival Granada Hills, but a surprisingly potent passing attack and a strong defensive effort gave the Golden Cougars a 14-0, North Valley League victory and a second consecutive win over the Highlanders.

The Golden Cougars (2-4 overall, 2-1 in league play) were led by quarterback John Toven, who hit his first four passes for 113 yards to set up a pair of first-half scores. He did not complete another pass the rest of the game, but with the Golden Cougar defense, it did not make much difference.

Led by the inspired play of linebackers Vincent Carthron and Adam Manzo, Kennedy held the Highlander offense to 89 yards--75 from running back Tremain Foriest--and sacked quarterback Jim Landress four times for 35 yards in losses. Landress was five of 14 for 28 yards.
