A woman was killed and her husband critically injured after they were thrown from their motorcycle in a traffic collision, police said Wednesday.

The Tuesday night collision occurred after the driver of a car apparently made an illegal left turn onto Fern Avenue as the motorcycle traveled east on Ball Road, Lt. Jack Parra said.

Motorcycle driver Harry Samuel Hazard, 40, could not stop in time, and he and his wife, Linda Hazard, 37, were tossed from the motorcycle, police said.

Linda Hazard died at the scene of the 11:34 p.m. collision, and Harry Hazard was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was in critical condition Wednesday.

The driver who allegedly caused the collision drove from the scene before police arrived. Witnesses described the car for officers who located it in front of a home in Stanton, police said.

Anaheim officers arrested Martin Rodriguez, 23, at the home, Parra said.

Rodriguez was being held at Anaheim City Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run, Parra said. His bail was set at $25,000.

Shortly afterward, officers placed Harry Hazard under arrest at UCI Medical Center after finding he was carrying several ounces of cocaine at the time of the collision, Parra said.

Police said doctors would conduct further tests on Harry Hazard to determine if he was driving under the influence of drugs, Parra said.
