Lynch Suspension Upheld, but Order Remains

Section Commissioner Kendall Webb on Tuesday released his decision in the case of Ryan Lynch, the Torrey Pines High quarterback who was ejected from a Sept. 25 game against La Jolla for “kneeing” an opponent.

Because of Section rules, Lynch also received a one-game suspension, which he appealed. Webb’s decision Tuesday upheld the suspension, but Lynch will continue to play because his attorney obtained a temporary restraining order.

Lynch was to sit out Friday, Oct. 2, against El Camino, but the restraining order was obtained that morning and Lynch has played since. He will play Friday against Carlsbad.

Webb said that he has been notified that Torrey Pines Principal Simeon Greenstein will appeal his decision, so an appeals committee will hold a final hearing. Webb said he hopes to convene that meeting Monday, but has been turned down by four county administrators in requests to hear the matter.

Webb said he upheld the suspension because “after reviewing tapes, there is no question that the quarterback thrust his right knee forward in a very vigorous motion,” Webb said. “There is no question the action did occur.”
