PREP ROUNDUP : Edison Girls Clinch Title in Sunset League Tennis

Edison, ranked fifth in the Southern Section Division II girls’ tennis poll, clinched the Sunset League team championship by defeating Ocean View, 18-0, Monday at Edison High School.

Freshman Kelly Foster swept in singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for the Chargers (17-1, 12-0 in league). Edison’s only loss this season came in a nonleague match against Los Alamitos, the top-ranked team in Division III.

In other Sunset League matches:

Marina 13, Westminster 5--Linda Yoon swept, 6-3, 6-2, 6-0, in singles, and Wendy Gratteau and Amy Peterson swept, 6-3, 6-0, 6-1, in doubles for visiting Marina (11-2-1 in league).

Huntington Beach 13, Santa Ana 5--Kelly Lambert swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2, 6-3, for host Huntington Beach (6-7 in league). Alice Huang and Chung Kim swept in doubles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for Huntington Beach, which won eight of nine doubles sets.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Beach 11, Estancia 7--Michelle Bray and Lindsay Weiss each swept their singles sets for league champion Laguna Beach (19-1, 10-0). Kristina Grigaitis and Lauren Weaver swept in doubles, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4, for host Estancia (15-5, 7-3).

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 18, University 0--Megan Wachtler swept at singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, for host Corona del Mar (15-4, 12-2), which finished second in league.

Newport Harbor 11, Irvine 7--Mara Colaizzi swept at singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for host Newport Harbor (14-5, 11-3), the third-place team in league.

Santa Margarita 16, Woodbridge 2--Tiffany Brown and Tiffany Blackburn swept at doubles, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2, for league champion Santa Margarita (18-2, 13-1) at Coto Valley Country Club.

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 10, Capistrano Valley 8--Cheri Ota and Trisha Abe swept at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3, for Mater Dei (9-9, 4-5) at Costa Mesa Tennis Club.

In nonleague water polo:

Magnolia 18, Estancia 10--Mustafa Hassan scored six goals and Mike Crawford had four for host Magnolia (20-4). Marc Read scored four goals for Estancia (8-14).
