PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Young’s Injury Not a Major One

Examinations of defensive lineman Robert Young, who was kicked in the lower left leg during Thursday’s practice, showed no major damage, Coach Chuck Knox said.

Young couldn’t practice and was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Phoenix Cardinals.

“He’s got a bone bruise,” Knox said. “It’s still pretty sore, still swollen. So he would have a possibility of being inactive.”

Knox mentioned Warren Powers as a replacement for Young, whose main role this season has been as an inside rusher in the nickel defense.

All of the Rams’ receivers practiced Friday, and Knox said he is presuming all of them will be able to play Sunday.

“We’ve got some guys a little banged up, but they’ve been playing banged up,” Knox said. “(Jeff) Chadwick’s been playing banged up (back problem), and Flipper (Anderson), as you know, has been hurt a little bit.”

Also, Aaron Cox suffered a minor leg injury during Sunday’s game while filling in for Anderson, who has an ankle injury, and Henry Ellard sat out a day of practice this week because of a slight rib injury.

The Rams have made a change on their kickoff return team, adding starting fullback David Lang as a returner paired with main returner Vernon Turner. Lang replaces rookie Todd Kinchen.

“He’s got some explosiveness, plus he’s a pretty good blocker,” Knox said of Lang, who had a 67-yard touchdown reception on a short pass last week. “We’re trying to firm some things up there.”
