SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFF PAIRINGS : GIRLS’ TENNIS : Laguna Beach, Los Alamitos Earn Top Spots in Pairings

Laguna Beach and Los Alamitos are the only two county teams seeded No. 1 in their divisions in the Southern Section girls’ tennis playoff pairings that were announced Monday.

The playoffs start today with qualification matches, two of them involving county teams. In Division III, Fullerton (11-8) plays host to Los Altos (12-4), and in Division IV, Los Amigos (11-8) plays at Western (14-5). Both matches are at 2 p.m.

First-round matches start Thursday, and the finals in all five divisions are scheduled for Nov. 24.

Thirty county teams, including the three in the qualification round, are in the playoffs.

In Division II, Laguna Beach (19-1) is the only seeded team among the 11 county schools in the draw. The Pacific Coast League champion Artists open Thursday against Fountain Valley (10-10).

Los Alamitos (18-1), the defending Division III champion, is favored to repeat after cruising to its sixth consecutive Empire League title. The Griffins play host to Long Beach Poly (10-5) in their opening match Thursday. Also seeded is No. 3 Sunny Hills (17-6), the Freeway League winner.
