Sophomore quarterback Eric Kiesau of Glendale College has completed four more passes than he did all last season--in 72 fewer attempts. Kiesau has hit 81 of 127 (63.8%) for 1,339 yards and 14 touchdowns with only two interceptions. As a freshman he passed for 781 yards and five touchdowns and had eight interceptions.

Football: Senior quarterback Marty Fisher is tied for fifth with Donald Gray (1972-73) on Cal State Northridge’s list of completions in a career with 247. He is sixth in attempts (486) and passing percentage (50.8%), eighth in passing yardage (2,769) and ninth in touchdown passes (15).

Saadite Green caught six passes for 121 yards against Portland State to lead the Matadors in receiving yardage for the second consecutive week. Green, a senior transfer from Cal State Fullerton, has a team-high 375 yards on 19 catches. . . . Senior outside linebacker Bryon Ward’s 16 tackles against Portland State tie him with defensive tackle Victor Myles and free safety Gerald Ponder for most tackles in a game this season.

With one game remaining in his first season as a Matador, junior outside linebacker Angel Chavez is ranked ninth in sacks in a career with seven, including one against Portland State for a seven-yard loss.

Gil Carrillo’s 80-yard touchdown run against Harbor was six yards shy of Kenny Durr’s Moorpark record for longest run from scrimmage, set against Ventura in 1987. . . . For Brad Faunce, practice makes perfect. The Glendale sophomore kicked off a personal-high 12 times in the Vaqueros’ 75-0 win over Compton. He booted the ball into and through the end zone nine times. . . . Ira Harris, making his first start at fullback for Antelope Valley, gained 117 yards in 21 carries last week.

In its last two games, Glendale has outscored opponents 138-13. . . . Valley has scored 139 points and gained 1,709 yards in its last three games, but the Monarchs have won only one of them.

When Mike Gee rushed for 190 yards in Ventura’s victory over Santa Barbara on Saturday, it was the first time a Pirate runner had broken the 100-yard mark this season. The 24-18 win snapped an eight-game losing streak. . . . Ventura held Santa Barbara to 18 points, its lowest output of the season.

Cross-country: When Glendale’s Jacques Sallberg won the men’s race at the WSC finals at Griffith Park on Tuesday, it marked the third year in a row that a Vaquero runner has placed first. Hugo Allan Garcia won titles in 1990 and 91.

Women’s volleyball: With 34 digs in two matches last week, Dawn Krenik has become Northridge’s all-time leader with 1,056. Krenik, a 5-foot-7 senior outside hitter from Agoura High, broke the record of 1,051 set by Alissa Evans from 1986-89. . . .

Nancy Nicholls, Northridge’s 6-0 senior middle blocker, has been on a hitting tear during a nine-match winning streak in which the Matadors have run their record to 24-7. Nicholls, who leads the team with 383 kills and a .285 hitting percentage, has 118 kills and a .361 hitting percentage during the streak.
