Taft High infielder Gabe Kapler has signed an NCAA Division I letter of intent to play next season at Cal State Fullerton.
Kapler batted .313 last season at Taft and had a superlative summer for the Woodland Hills East American Legion team. Kapler, who plays shortstop, second and third base, batted .350 in the Legion season with 30 runs batted in and four home runs.
Kapler (6-foot, 170 pounds) signed the letter of intent Wednesday, the final day of the NCAA’s weeklong early signing period. His scholarship reportedly will cover approximately 65% of his tuition.
He is the second Taft player to sign a letter of intent. Left-handed pitcher Justin Siegel signed last week with North Carolina State.
