1991: Reached the Southern Section 1-A dual meet final, losing to Yucca Valley, 30-29. Shane Valdez was the State meet runner-up at 112 pounds. He also won the Master meet and 1-A titles. Dane Valdez was fourth in the Masters meet at 119 pounds and qualified for the State meet.

Outlook: Enrollment at the Santa Ana school is only 500, but quality wrestlers have been attracted to Azevedo, a member of the 1980 Olympic team. Orange County coaches selected the Eagles as the No. 1 team in their preseason rankings, largely because of the Valdez twins, Coughran, Kellogg and Smith. No one else seems to have as many good wrestlers back from last season. With an ambitious schedule, the Eagles might not stay No. 1 for long, however. By the time the section tournaments roll around, they should again find their way to the top.
