COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Porter Leads OCC to Victory in Basketball

After being fouled while attempting a three-point shot at the buzzer, Jeff Porter made two of three free throws to give Orange Coast a 67-65 victory over Los Angeles Valley in a consolation game of the Mt. San Jacinto men’s basketball tournament Tuesday.

The Pirates (2-3) trailed by 15 points at halftime, but rallied behind the shooting of Porter and Todd Loewe. Porter finished with 25 points and Loewe 21 for Orange Coast, which will meet Southwestern of Chula Vista in the consolation final today at 3:30.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Rancho Santiago College 54, Grossmont 44--Sonia Ramirez scored 13 points and Andrea Long grabbed 17 rebounds to lead Rancho Santiago (1-3) over visiting Grossmont (0-4).

Golden West 76, College of the Canyons 62--Francis Oda scored 16 points and Cinnamon Basco had 23 rebounds to lead Golden West (5-0) past host Canyon.

In the Southern California women’s volleyball playoffs:

Cuesta 3, Fullerton 1--Wendy Ward had 15 kills to lead Cuesta (20-3) to a 10-15, 15-0, 15-7, 15-7 victory over Fullerton (10-7), which got 12 kills from Tricia Miltenberger.

Golden West 3, San Bernardino Valley 0--Becki Gehlke had 12 kills and Heather Flaherty added 10 to lead Golden West (26-0) to a 15-6, 15-5, 15-6 victory over San Bernardino Valley (18-4) in first-round play.

Orange Coast 3, Palomar 1--Bryn Gillis had 23 kills as the host Pirates (13-7) won their first-round match, 15-8, 13-15, 15-4, 16-14. Trina Trejo had 19 kills for Palomar (10-9).
