Slow Start Can’t Hold Hawaii Back
Michael Carter scored three touchdowns and Eddie Kealoha added two more as Hawaii beat Tulsa, 38-9, in a nonconference game Saturday night.
Hawaii, which entered the game with a 32-point average, led by only 7-3 at the half, getting only 150 yards in total offense. During the second half, however, the Rainbows rolled up 382 yards.
Carter scored on runs of 10, one and seven yards and Kealoha went 42 and two yards. Jason Elam capped the Hawaii scoring with a 37-yard field goal, his 78th. The NCAA record for a career is 80, by Jeff Jaeger of Washington in early 1980s.
Holiday Bowl-bound Hawaii improved to 9-2, and Tulsa ended its season at 4-7.
