The San Diego State men’s basketball program announced Wednesday that former Crawford High School standout Marc Carter has signed a national letter of intent to join the Aztecs next year. Carter is the only player signed by the Aztecs during the early fall signing period.

Carter, a 6-foot-9 forward, plays for Southwestern College. Through seven games, the Apaches are 6-1 and Crawford is averaging 19 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. He was recently named to the all-tournament team at the San Jacinto Junior College Tournament.

Crawford averaged 11.5 points and 13.3 rebounds as a freshman and was an All-Pacific Coast Conference first-team member as Southwestern (25-9) won its first PCC championship.

“In my 22 years of coaching basketball, I’ve never seen a player improve as much in one year as Marc has,” Southwestern Coach John Cosentino said.

Carter, who attempted no three-point shots last year, is 12 of 20 this season.
