Three Cal State Northridge students and a 15-year-old youth were in custody Saturday on suspicion of stealing a car at gunpoint from a motorist, police said.

The carjacking of an automobile owned by Roger Bourban, 44, of Los Angeles occurred in Sherman Oaks at Atoll Avenue and Landale Street early Thursday, said Sgt. Joseph Brazas of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police arrested Darin Sutton, 18, after officers saw him driving the stolen car south on the San Diego Freeway near Ventura Boulevard shortly after the carjacking, Brazas said.

The other three--Barrington Edwards and Larry Major, both 18, and the unidentified juvenile--were arrested after they called a roommate to say they had had car trouble and needed a ride back to campus, Brazas said.

Police borrowed the roommate’s car to make the arrest, he said.

All were being held Saturday at Van Nuys Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail apiece, Brazas said.
