Camarillo tailback Fahali Campbell, whose high school career came to an end Friday in the Scorpions’ 16-7 Southern Section Division III semifinal loss to Bell Gardens, fell 70 yards shy of the state rushing title. Still, his performance this season was nothing short of remarkable.

Campbell (5-foot-11, 175 pounds) rushed for a Ventura County-record 2,291 yards. He also scored 25 touchdowns and averaged 6.2 yards a carry while leading Camarillo (9-4) to a surprising second-place finish in the Marmonte League. Campbell rushed for more than 200 yards six times and more than 250 yards twice.

In three years and 33 games, Campbell rushed for 3,824 yards and 32 touchdowns in 622 carries (6.1 average). . . .

Basketball: Crescenta Valley senior point guard Adam Jacobsen, who set the all-time Southern Section record for three-point field goals, has 297 in his career. Jacobsen, the most valuable player of the Burbank-Hoover tournament, averaged 28.0 points in leading the Falcons to the tournament title.

Jacobsen also converted two four-point plays in the three games.

Verdugo Hills senior guard Eddie Powell recorded his first triple-double of the season last week. Powell scored a personal-high 44 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and had 11 assists in the Dons’ 105-92 victory over Belmont. Three games into the season, Powell is averaging 32.7 points.

Cross-country: One streak continued and another came to an end at the Kinney West regional championships in Fresno on Saturday. Amy Skieresz of Agoura and Karen Bockel of Nordhoff placed second and seventh in the girls’ race, marking the ninth year in a row that at least one female runner from the region has qualified for the national championships (the top eight advance).

Conversely, this is the first time since 1983 that at least one male runner from the region has not qualified.

This is the seventh consecutive year that at least one runner from Agoura has qualified.

Water polo: Indicative of Harvard-Westlake’s balance on offense during the playoffs, seven players scored goals in four matches. All-American Jim Toring, a senior, scored 20 goals in the playoffs, including four in the 10-9 championship loss to El Toro.
