A woman was hit by a pickup and killed as she crossed a San Diego street, a police spokesman said.

Police are still searching for the truck’s driver, who witnesses said drove on without stopping after hitting the woman at 5:15 p.m. Monday.

Consolacion Igbacol, 69, had nearly crossed Cardiff Street mid-block just south of Wade Street when the pickup, traveling south, hit her, officials said. Igbacol was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where she died in the operating room at 6:05 p.m., the county medical examiner’s office said.

Igbacol lived on Billow Drive, about two blocks from the scene, officials said.

Two drivers who said they were behind the pickup at the time of the accident told police they had not seen Igbacol crossing the road. Igbacol was wearing dark clothing and was hit in an unlighted portion of the four-lane roadway, Police Detective Anthony Atkins said.

Police are requesting anyone with information about the driver to call 495-7811. The truck was described as a light-colored, small pickup with a camper shell, Atkins said.
