Swinton Rushes Into Record Book

Football: Eliel Swinton of Montclair Prep rushed for at least 150 yards in each of the Mounties’ 13 games and for more than 200 in four. He finished the season with 2,384 yards, a San Fernando Valley record. . . . Swinton’s running mate, Wilbert Smith, scored at least one touchdown in every game. . . .

Sylmar kicker Robert Camacho’s 36-yard field goal in last week’s game against Carson was his first of the season. His only other attempt was from 53 yards. . . . Sylmar’s 17-0 victory over Carson marked the Colts’ first shutout defeat since 1980. It also was the first shutout in the City Section 4-A final since Banning defeated Cleveland, 34-0, in 1976, and only the third in the past 31 large-division finals.

Basketball: Crescenta Valley’s Adam Jacobsen has made 16 of 34 shots (47%) from three-point range. Jacobsen, who is averaging 27.6 points, has a Southern Section-record 304 three-point goals. . . .

Burbank forward Tyson Helsely is the Bulldogs’ most improved player. Helsely, who averaged eight points and five rebounds last season, leads the team with averages of 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Burroughs guard Gabe Colon, who averages 18.3 points, has made 14 of 25 three-point field goals (56%). . . . Simi Valley’s Jeff Barlow has made nine of 20 three-point attempts (45%), and teammate Sean Malia has made eight of 20 (40%). . . .

After failing to score a point or record a rebound in his first two games, Calabasas forward Mike Dye has 32 points and 22 rebounds in his last two games. . . .

Village Christian’s Dave Fennell, who has scored 808 points, needs 30 to break the school scoring record. . . . Montclair Prep freshman Jerome Joseph is leading the team in scoring through eight games with an average of 16.6 points.

Girls’ basketball: Marion Jones, a Thousand Oaks senior, is off to a hot start. She had a school-record 25 rebounds in a quarterfinal win over Torrance in the Savanna tournament. Two nights later, Jones had a personal-high 39 points when the Lancers beat Cerritos, 71-56, for the championship. . . Simi Valley’s Sara Griffin set a school record with 16 free throws in a win over Santa Clara in the Buena tournament. Griffin also had 29 points and 16 rebounds in the 70-55 win. . . . Nordhoff (8-0), which won the championship of its own tournament Saturday, is off to the best start in school history.
