CANOGA PARK : Shop Collects Used Bikes for Giveaway
A Canoga Park bicycle shop is organizing a used-bicycle giveaway for residents of South-Central Los Angeles.
“We thought it would be a nice thing to support giving bikes to people not in a position to buy them,” said John Lewis, manager of Bikesport.
The bicycle shop contacted 40 San Fernando Valley churches two weeks ago and asked the congregations to donate bicycles. So far, the shop has received about 25 bicycles, and the organizers are hoping to gather at least twice that many, Lewis said.
The shop will then give the bikes to First African Methodist Episcopal Church, which will donate them to children and adults during the holidays. People interested in donating bicycles have until Monday to drop them off at Bikesport at 22330 Sherman Way.
