PREP NOTES : El Toro Girls Get Opportunity to Stop Long Unbeaten Streak
- Share via
The El Toro girls’ soccer team, no stranger to long unbeaten streaks, will have a chance to end one when it plays Encinitas San Dieguito at 7 tonight at Mission Viejo High School.
San Dieguito, the two-time defending San Diego Division 3-A champion, won its first five matches this season to extend its unbeaten streak to 40. San Dieguito returns nine starters from the team last year that was ranked No. 2 in the nation by a national soccer coaches’ association.
“We just want to play some different teams because the same few teams are competitive with us down here,” San Dieguito Coach Dave Emmerson said. “We wanted to see somebody else.”
El Toro, which had a 42-match streak stopped last season, is the top-ranked team in Orange County. The Chargers (6-0) won the Irvine tournament Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Laguna Hills.
