PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Players’ Fines Go to Charities

Share

Three charities were the beneficiaries of Coach Chuck Knox’s attention to discipline, each receiving $5,000 checks from money collected from player fines.

Knox, who presented the checks to the First AME Church, Salvation Army and the Anaheim Police Department’s community service group, said his fine system is necessary to keep the players functioning as a team.

“Haven’t had anybody come in and complain about it,” Knox said, “because we go over what the rules are. The rules aren’t impossible rules.”

Knox said there still is some money left in the fine fund, which will be distributed to several other charities after the season.

Last season, the Rams did not fine any players.

With the prospect of a game in sub-freezing weather Sunday in Green Bay against the Packers, Knox said there wasn’t much the Rams could do this week to prepare for the cold.

“I don’t think we can go out some place, go up into the mountains and leap into a snow bank,” Knox said, “or take ice cubes and rub it all over, as if that’s going to make us any more adaptable as far as dealing with the cold is concerned.”
