PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Keeping a Job Remains a Goal

The Raiders’ playoff hopes are officially dead.

With a 6-8 record, the Raiders will have to play for pride and respect.

“Once we go out there, we’ll play to win,” said cornerback Terry McDaniel about the Raiders’ home game Sunday against San Diego. “But, it’s tough knowing that even if you win there are no playoffs down the line.”

The Raiders might begin to play some younger players in the last two games, such as rookies Greg Skrepenak, an offensive lineman from Michigan, and Derrick Hoskins, a defensive back from Southern Mississippi. layers such as tight end David Jones, tailback Nick Bell and even quarterback Todd Marinovich could see more time.

However, Coach Art Shell did not make any commitments Wednesday.

“Those guys may get some playing time, but as of now we have not sat down with the entire staff and made those decisions,” Shell said. “I’ve been thinking about that, but nothing is definite as of now.”

Wide receiver Tim Brown is looking at the Raiders’ final two games as a test for many players.

“We’ve got two weeks to get it done,” he said, “and if you don’t play well, some of the guys might not be around here next year.”
