PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Weather Shouldn’t Favor the Packers

Don Bracken, who survived six frigid years as Green Bay’s punter before joining the Rams this season, says the Rams won’t necessarily be at a disadvantage playing in the cold Sunday, when they travel to Lambeau Field to play the Packers.

The weekend forecast for Green Bay is temperatures in the 20s with the possibility of snow.

“I think if a team that comes from a warm place . . . if you can put it out of your mind, you’re out on the field for three, four hours,” Bracken said Wednesday.

“I know there were games up there that I didn’t want to go out and play (when he was a Packer) as much as anyone else.

“I think the weather can psyche out a team coming from a warm place if they let it. I just think if you don’t dwell on it, you know, both teams are playing under the same conditions. Just block it out.”

But Bracken doesn’t deny that he’s glad the ice cold this year is only a one-week experience.

“I don’t miss it at all,” he said. “I like it out here, where you can wear shorts in December.”

With the prospect of a game in sub-freezing weather Sunday in Green Bay against the Packers, Knox said there wasn’t much the Rams could do this week to prepare for the cold.

“I don’t think we can go out some place, go up into the mountains and leap into a snow bank,” Knox said, “or take ice cubes and rub it all over, as if that’s going to make us any more adaptable as far as dealing with the cold is concerned.”
