OUTLOOK

The majority of Empire League coaches pick Cypress to win its third consecutive league title this season, but the Centurions aren’t giving anyone bulletin board material. “We’re a young team that lost three quality starters,” Cypress assistant coach John Selbe said. “We do have three quality players returning, but it’s hard to say who the favorite is this year.” Coach Denise Selbe, John’s wife, does have solid talent back, led by 1992 league MVP Eggleston. Eggleston, a junior, averaged 18 points and 15 rebounds last season and helped the Centurions reach the Division II-A quarterfinals. “Having her back definitely helps,” John Selbe said. Also back are Flaming and Adams, whom the coaches expect to increase their scoring output. Both were all-league selections last year, with Adams providing solid play in the post and Flaming providing good outside shooting from the point guard position. Cypress expects to be nine deep, with depth provided by lettermen Butcher, Bozarelos and Cox. Cox is the only senior on the Cypress roster, which also includes freshmen guards Nakagawa and Shiraki. Also expected to play is Swan, a transfer from Japan.
