DelCrognale, who coached the boys’ freshman team the last two years, will be in his first season with the girls. Sunny Hills, which finished fifth last season, has experience with six returning seniors. Five of them have been on the varsity team for three years. “We haven’t been winners the last two years,” DelCrognale said. “The players have been lacking basic basketball knowledge.” DelCrognale said the team’s weakness is that it can’t match up in size with some of the other teams in the league, but he said experience and quickness will help make up for that. Roque, a 5-foot-11 senior forward, is the team’s best shooter. Roque, Raphael and McLean are three of the tallest players on the squad and give the Lancers at least a little bit of size on the front line. “I think we will be competitive, and I think the league is down,” he said. “We are a dark horse team, with the favorites La Habra and Troy.” Wilcox returns at point guard and will share the backcourt with Kurosaki. DelCrognale said that Catlin will back up Raphael at center.
