HAWTHORNE : After-Work Gathering Ends in Double Murder

Share

Hawthorne police Tuesday were investigating a double murder in a residence where a group of people had gathered, apparently for after-work chitchat.

Officers responding to a report of a stabbing at 3 a.m. found two people dead and a third wounded from several stab wounds in a residence in the 5000 block of West 118th Place, said Sgt. Don Pedersen.

The victims’ names were withheld pending notification of relatives. The dead, both women, were a 32-year-old Hawthorne resident and a 31-year-old Hermosa Beach resident, according to the coroner’s office. The 46-year-old injured man, apparently a visitor, was in stable condition at a hospital, Pedersen said.

Pedersen said there was evidence of a burglary, but investigators have not determined if that was the motive. Nothing was missing from the house, he said. The three worked at Los Angeles International Airport and had gathered for conversation after work.
