Ernest Barron of Ventura died of head injuries at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday. The 1988 Ford Thunderbird in which he was a passenger struck a raised curb and then hit a tree on West Main Street after the car exited California 33, the CHP said.
The driver of the vehicle, Paul Manchego, 23, of Oxnard suffered major injuries. Manchego, who was transferred to Ventura County Medical Center, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving. He was in fair condition Wednesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Barron is survived by his wife and two children, a coroner’s spokesman said.
