GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Nonis’ Last-Second Layup Wins It

Chris Nonis scored a layup as time ran out in overtime to give Sonora a 60-59 victory over Pacifica in the first round of the Santiago Tournament.
Nonis scored seven of her team’s 10 overtime points and finished with a team-high 21 points. Sonora’s Leila Tabatabaee made two free throws with three seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score, 50-50.
In another tournament game:
Corona del Mar 57, El Modena 37--Mollie Flint scored 31 points to lead Corona del Mar (6-1) to a first-round victory.
In the Artesia Tournament:
Trabuco Hills 44, Compton Dominguez 34--Guard Jenny Wilson scored 15 points to lead the Mustangs (5-5) in the first round.
In the Costa Mesa Tournament:
Tustin 71, Westminster 67 (5 OT)--Sara Davis hit two free throws with eight seconds to play to send the game into overtime in the consolation-round game. Erin Oakley scored the first five points in the fifth overtime period to put the Tillers (3-5) ahead for good.
San Clemente 58, North Torrance 47--Michelle MacIntyre scored 20 points for San Clemente (8-3), which plays Costa Mesa at 8 p.m. in one championship semifinal.
Capistrano Valley 63, University 38--Angie White scored 14 points to lead Capistrano Valley (7-1), which plays Arroyo Grande at 6:20 p.m. in a championship semifinal.
Santa Margarita 47, Dos Pueblos 33--Lesley Nolan scored 12 points to lead Santa Margarita (2-6).
Woodbridge 54, Montebello Schurr 41--Sophomore center Angela Burgess had 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead Woodbridge (5-4). Schurr is 5-3.
