COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Irvine Valley No Match for Ventura in Loss

Ventura, the top-ranked men’s team in the state, defeated Irvine Valley, 93-75, in the championship game Hancock Holiday tournament in Santa Maria.

Chris Kostoff scored 17 points, including five three-pointers, for the Lasers (10-7), whose 75 points was a season low.

Tournament most valuable player Calvin Curry scored a game-high 30 points for Ventura (20-0), which led 45-38, at the half.

Kostoff and Gabe Higa, who scored 13 points, made the all-tournament team for Irvine Valley.

In another Hancock Holiday tournament game:

Golden West 57, Santa Barbara 54--Golden West trailed, 31-22, at the half, but rallied to win the consolation championship game. Josh Lewis and Greg Vandenordel scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, for the Rustlers.

In the San Diego Mesa men’s tournament:

Grossmont 88, Orange Coast College 87 (OT)--Todd Loewe, who had 16 points, forced the overtime with a shot at the buzzer. Jeff Porter had 32 points and 11 rebounds for OCC (3-11) in the consolation round game. Teammate Darren Crooks scored 25 points and hit three three-pointers.

In the Rancho Santiago Holiday men’s tournament:

Rancho Santiago 109, Los Angeles Harbor 82--Fred Amos led Rancho Santiago (11-5) with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Rancho Santiago had a 20-point lead, 53-23, at halftime.

Long Beach 87, Saddleback 78--Jamie Davis scored 20 points and had three three-pointers for Long Beach City (17-4). Rodney Harris and Kevin Beal each had 14 points for the host team. John Molle had 27 points and hit three three-pointers for Saddleback (10-5), while teammate Antoine Jefferson scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds.

In the Fullerton women’s tournament:

Golden West 68, Fullerton 46--Melanie Iwamasa scored 31 points to lead Golden West, which coasted after building a 21-point first-half lead.
