ANTELOPE VALLEY : Builder to Pay Fine Over Contributions

Share

The Anden Group, a prominent Antelope Valley home builder based in Canoga Park, has agreed to pay a $2,500 fine to the state’s Fair Political Practices Commission for failing to properly report $36,250 in 1990 campaign contributions, the FPPC said.

In a stipulation released Wednesday, the developer admitted failing to file two “major donor” reports that were due July 31, 1990, and Jan. 31, 1991. The company also has paid a $500 late filing fine to the secretary of state’s office. The company filed the reports after it was contacted by the commission. State law requires candidates to report contributions that they receive. But it also requires major donors--those giving $10,000 or more in a year--to file their own reports. The developer said it did not realize it had reached that threshold because various company divisions were giving the money.

The commission is slated to ratify the fine Jan. 7. The developer’s contributions included $15,500 to a committee run by then-county Supervisor Pete Schabarum, $10,000 to two transit-related state ballot measures, and $5,000 to the Southern California Caucus, a pro-development group.
